Q. How can I recover files with CD-R Diagnostic?
A. CD-R Diagnostic does not actually “repair” your disc - instead it gives you read-only access to the files on the disc. So, to “recover” the files you have to copy them somewhere else. In general, you are going to copy the files to your hard disk. You can either use the “File->Copy files” menu item, right-click files and/or folders or drag files and/or folders. These copy facilities are only available from the purchased version of the program - the free demo will not copy files.
Q. How can I unerase a deleted file?
A. As mentioned above, you are not going to be able to actually unerase the file. However, you can copy a deleted file to your hard disk. There are two ways you can see a deleted file using CD-R Diagnostic. The first is simple - the file is shown with an icon with a red border around it. The second possibility is that it is in the special folder “Unattached Items” and may not have the original name. It may be necessary to check all of the unnamed files for it. If you do not see the file in the list presented by CD-R Diagnostic, this means you have to force a complete examination of the disc in order to find it. This may take some time, but it will usually locate the file. You can force the complete examination by selecting the “Force intensive UDF scan” option in the Preferences dialog and then use the Refresh command or press F5.
