Setting the Order in Which Virtual Machines Start Up and Shut Down
To change the order in which virtual machines start up after the host boots and shut down when the host shuts down, you need to edit each virtual machine's configuration (.vmx) file.
Make sure you used the console to configure whether or not the virtual machine powers on when the host boots, and whether the guest shuts down or the virtual machine powers off when the host shuts down.
With the virtual machine powered off, add the following option to the virtual machine's configuration file:
autostart.order = <n>
The value for indicates the order in which the virtual machine starts up or shuts down relative to other virtual machines. The value must be specified as a multiple of 10. For example, for the first virtual machine, set:
autostart.order = 10
For the second virtual machine, set:
autostart.order = 20
Set autostart.order for the third virtual machine to 30, the fourth to 40, and so on.
